Volunteer as a Roots of Empathy Instructor or Family
Seeking volunteers for the 2023-24 school year in Oakridge Elementary School
Roots of Empathy is a program delivered by volunteers and with a local family with a baby born between May and October 2023. It has been shown to reduce levels of aggression and bullying among elementary school children while raising social and emotional competence. To find out more, please go to:
www.rootsofempathy.org
Instructors attend 3 days of in-person training: October 4-6, and a fourth day mid-way through the school year. Roots of Empathy families do not need training, but commit to visit the same class in the school 9 times over the course of a school year.
Programs are delivered by trained Instructors in Lane County starting in the fall and going to the end of the school year.
All Instructors are matched with a volunteer family, a classroom of students and their teacher, and a Mentor who will support them in and out of the classroom.
‘It’s worth every minute; the biggest impact you can have with your time!’ -Lane County Instructor
‘I am so grateful to each and every one of you (at 90by30) for the support you have offered. And to Roots of Empathy for preparing me so well. I am excited beyond words to be a part of this program’ -Lane County Instructor

Hello everyone,
The Oakridge School District Board has selected Dave McGrath for the position of Interim Superintendent for the 2023-2024 school year. We had several very qualified candidates and Dave really stood out for his understanding of the district and Oakridge as a community.
I want to thank everyone for their patience as we came together as a board to work through a process to ensure we made the best decision for our students, employees, and community.
Looking forward to a great school year!
On behalf of the Oakridge School Board,
Clem
