Volunteer as a Roots of Empathy Instructor or Family Seeking volunteers for the 2023-24 school year in Oakridge Elementary School Roots of Empathy is a program delivered by volunteers and with a local family with a baby born between May and October 2023. It has been shown to reduce levels of aggression and bullying among elementary school children while raising social and emotional competence. To find out more, please go to: www.rootsofempathy.org Instructors attend 3 days of in-person training: October 4-6, and a fourth day mid-way through the school year. Roots of Empathy families do not need training, but commit to visit the same class in the school 9 times over the course of a school year. Programs are delivered by trained Instructors in Lane County starting in the fall and going to the end of the school year. All Instructors are matched with a volunteer family, a classroom of students and their teacher, and a Mentor who will support them in and out of the classroom. ‘It’s worth every minute; the biggest impact you can have with your time!’ -Lane County Instructor ‘I am so grateful to each and every one of you (at 90by30) for the support you have offered. And to Roots of Empathy for preparing me so well. I am excited beyond words to be a part of this program’ -Lane County Instructor Contact Rose at rosew@90by30.com with questions to get involved!

reading challenge
Necessary supplies (pencils, papers, binders, crayons etc.) will be given to students in their class room on the first day of school. Here is a wish list of supplies the OES teachers would like to have available for their students to enrich their learning experience. If you are able to send your students with these supplies or able to donate something it would greatly benefit our local students.
